Melitta Coffee Filters? More healthy than gold coffee filters?
Do they make a better cup of coffee and therefore qualify for how to make coffee great.com’s list of must haves? Having long been a fan of gold filters because once you’ve bought one you don’t have the hassle and cost of buying replacements – I’ve now had to reconsider this. Melitta claims that their paper filters made from a southern pine pulp which mazimizes the absorbency of bitter coffee oils and thus having the result of a less bitter, more smooth tasting cup of java – unlike permanent gold filters which I’ve learnt to love. I love my gold filter but now Melitta’s got me thinking. Besides a less bitter cup – they claim their paper filters which remove the fatty coffee oils which may increase my cholesterol levels which of course the permanent gold filters do not do. In addition, the cone filters have been patented because they have microperforations which extract a richer better tasting cup. Melitta claims paper filters are the best way to brew coffee utilizing the drip method. They do the most thorough job in removing particulates and effectively trap bitter sediments for a smoother less bitter cup of coffee. In addition, paper filters allow you to use any type of grind while permanent filters require courser grinds. Finer grind coffees have a larger surface area exposed to the water so it provides a richer cup of coffee. Some permanent filters also transfer foreign taste and odour to your coffee. How true this all is –well I don’t know but it seems to me that if it weren’t they might have some sort of government agency after them – so probably worth a try.
