Clean Coffee Maker with Vinegar. Vinegar?
Ever heard of how to clean coffee maker with vinegar? Vinegar! Sounds strange but it is truly a great way to clean your machine without getting soap residue in your coffee cup.
Washing your coffee maker by hand or in the dish washer with soap is said by experts to “taint” that great coffee taste. But if you want your coffee maker to keep working and keep those coffees tasting great you have to wash it at least monthly. Why? Well water has minerals and they get deposited in the maker clogging it up. In addition, coffee oils left by previous brewing can oxidize and give your coffee an off color taste. So what’s someone who truly values each cup of coffee to do to keep it tasting great? The answer is running a vinegar solution through the machine instead of washing it. A 2 to 1 water to vinegar will do the trick. Just put it into the machine where you normally put in the water for your coffee. Turn on the machine (without the filter and coffee of course) and run it through. Empty out the vinegar, then run a couple of water only cycles through the machine and you are good to go for another month.I use this for my French Press as well although my wife subverts the whole process by running it through the dishwasher every once in a while. Married life has its compromises. Sigh.
