Expresso Coffee Beans
Espresso is really not anything to do with the beans and any type of bean can be used – and the bean can be light or dark roasted depending on the taste you want to get. Darker beans are generally more bitter tasting which is why the blends are generally a mix of darker and lighter beans. Espresso is the method of making the dark short drink that forms the basis for our favorite coffee drinks like cappuccino or macchiato or even iced caps… To make espresso, you need a special machine just for that purpose – an espresso machine. Most of them have boilers and when the water is hot enough it is pumped up into the head which holds the ground coffee. The pressure that has built up forces the water through the grounds very quickly and a thick dark liquid runs into the cup. Espressso is “pulled” in one or two ounce lots according the capacity of the machine (some can do both if you switch the head and vary the coffee grinds). Espresso has a strong flavor that is usually an acquired taste when you drink it black. However it has a low caffeine content mainly because you are drinking less coffee. If it’s too strong you can add boiling water for a variation on a regular coffee called an Americano… However the more you drink the more you like it and it's a lot of fun to pull the shots, steam milk and add all sorts of flavorings and garnishes like shaved chocolate and whipped cream to your espresso coffee drinks. |
