Melitta coffee maker

Melitta Coffee Maker

Everyone seems to know the Melitta brand.

It's been around as a German coffee maker since the early 20 th century courtesy of a woman, Melitta Bentz who in her quest to make coffee great invented a machine that used paper filters and the forerunner to the modern day filter drip coffee maker was registered with the Patent Office.

The resulting brew was much less bitter than brewing coffee in pots or percolators.

She called it the Filter Top Device lined with Filter Paper and in 1908 the Melitta company was also established.

Interestingly, Melitta, a true inventor made the first Melitta filter out of blotting paper. Later inventions were a coffee filter bag and vacuum packed coffee.

More recently, the filters that most consumers are familiar with in our recent grocery store were improved to include patented flavour pores which are micro perforations of the filter which filter out bitter oils which make even good beans taste bad in our cup. These fatty oils can also increase cholesterol levels and the micro pores can remove them as well.

Permanent filters such as the gold metal ones do not remove these oils so Melitta has created a filter that is also better for our health.

Interestingly enough, Melitta has stayed a coffee filter company although they have a line of makers that start at under $5.00.

They also sell coffee pods coffee pods which have raving reviews for the excellence of the coffee.

They have one of the earliest one cup coffee makers which is a manual system and many students are familiar with this one.

The Melitta Take 2 Coffeemaker brews 2 cups right into a travel mug. Just put ground coffee into the top of the machine and pour hot water over the top.

And what about the ME1MSB Smart Mill & Brew?

This 10 cupper gives the early riser the weather report via an FM signal including forecasts, bad weather alerts, UV index, sunrise, sunset and more from MSN.
