Starbucks fair trade coffee
Starbucks fair trade coffee. Great way to ensure fair trade and coffee is to drink coffee from Starbucks Coffee Company!
Another thing I like about Starbucks is that like Newmans Organics K Cups I can get a cup a coffee that allows the growers to get a decent price for the beans that they grow. It’s a little thing to us but a big thing to the farmers. Historically, they’ve been taken advantage of by the big coffee companies and it’s nice to see big business taking a socially responsible stand for a change. There is often an inequitable relationship between small scale farmers and large corporations who have often paid farmers less than it costs to produce their crop. Basically it’s been sell it to us or don’t sell it at all. It’s hardly the way to create either sustainable environmental development or allow the farmers to provide for their families welfare when you pay them less than it costs to work long hours basically for nothing. What is Fair Trade Anyway? Fair trade is a way to ensure that farmers get a guaranteed minimum price for their coffee. Often the market price may be less than it costs a farmer to produce his crop. Fair trade coffee lets those less fortunate live a decent life and allow their children to get not only the basics of life but provides for a better future. It’s a small thing that we can do for them. My hat’s off to Starbucks for this.
