What is fair trade coffee?

What is fair trade coffee? Best way to get a taste of fair trade and coffee. Let's promote fair trade and treat third world farmers right!

Basically it’s a way we can drink our morning cup of java with the knowledge that we are not exploiting small third world farmers whose business is growing coffee.

It’s a huge movement by consumers towards drinking coffee only from producers who pay a fair and set price that helps alleviate poverty and contributes to the environment at the same time.

Most of the coffee we drink unfortunately comes from producers who pay the poor farmers so little that they often do not break even on their crop.

So we contribute to their misery when we drink coffee from non fair trade sources.

However the market for fair trade is growing in both North America and Europe up 154% in 5 years.

In addition to helping the farmers and their families a certain proportion of the money paid for this coffee is used to build schools, wells and other infrastructure that improves the well being of the entire community.

In addition when we drink this type of coffee we know we contribute to better working conditions where women are fairly treated and paid, where children are not exploited as cheap labor and where more environmentally sound farming is practiced as opposed to big factory farms.
